• The Physical Therapy Outcomes Registry supports APTA's vision for the physical therapy profession to "transform society by optimizing movement to improve the human experience." A powerful tool to assess the quality and value of physical therapist services, the Registry will assist the profession in its pursuit of the "triple aim" of health care: improving population health, improving the patient's experience, and lowering costs.

    Purpose

In an evolving health care environment, in which increased scrutiny is being placed on outcomes, the Registry enables the physical therapy community to demonstrate the value of physical therapist services to consumers and payers—while also providing benchmarking data to enhance patient care.

Data contributed to the registry will show how physical therapist treatment can change lives. This knowledge will help physical therapists deliver even better care and outcomes for their patients.

    Goals

    • Elevate patient care through data-informed clinical decision making
    • Demonstrate the value of physical therapist services
    • Promote health services research
    • Use data to guide payment policy
    • Determine clinical practice patterns and assess adherence to clinical practice guidelines
    • Support quality improvement initiatives
